With today’s hectic lifestyle sleep is becoming a commodity that many are sacrificing as a non-essential activity. A consequence of this general lack of sleep is that people are often becoming reliant on coffee to get them through the tired periods and to help them push towards deadlines. Not only is lack of sleep very bad for you the ‘cure’ — coffee — only compounds the problem and can lead to coffee addiction.
Coffee addiction is becoming a very real problem; the most susceptible to the disease are office workers who have high pressure jobs and students. Both these classes of people are continually striving to meet ever more demanding deadlines and rarely get chance to catch up on their sleep. Much of the problem is down to the fact that people simply don’t know that they are addicted!
Once the coffee-addiction has set in the damage really begins. Irritability and premature tiredness are your body’s way of telling your that it wants more coffee. Naturally those with the addiction are more than happy to oblige.
The best way to answer the question: am I addicted to coffee? is simply to try and go a day without it. Irritability and tiredness mean that you’ve probably got a problem.
